Registration of Construction Projects

Home 9 Announcements 9 Registration of Construction Projects

The National Construction Industry Council of Malawi (NCIC) is mandated under the National Construction Industry Act to register persons intending to conduct business in the construction industry. Under Section 12(e) of the Act, NCIC has powers to obtain and collate all available information concerning existing and proposed projects in Malawi through Project Registration Regulations.

Project owners, contractors and consultants are expected to individually register their construction projects with NCIC within 21 days of contract signing or commencement. Any person or entity that fails to comply with these Regulations commits an offence and shall be liable to a fine of one percent of the value of the project.

The Project Registration Regulations apply to all construction projects being carried out in the country regardless of location, value, type, size or source of funds. Upon registration, each project shall be provided with an identification number which shall be displayed on the project sign board on the site.

The Government of Malawi through NCIC, started implementing project registration in 2013. In this regard NCIC would like to remind the general public, contractors and consultants that Project Registration is a major tool that is used for monitoring progress and performance of the Construction Industry and its contribution to the economic development of the country. The information generated by Project Registration is also used to monitor and assess the performance of persons engaged in the Construction Industry as well as the contribution the industry makes to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

Registration forms for Project Registration can be downloaded online at https://ncic.mw/download/ncic-project-registration-form/  or may be collected from the following NCIC offices:
