Mandatory registration of construction projects

The National Construction Industry Council of Malawi (NCIC) is mandated under the National Construction Industry Act to register persons intending to conduct business in the construction industry. Under Section 12(e) of the Act, NCIC has powers to obtain and collate all available information concerning existing and proposed projects in Malawi through Project Registration Regulations.

The NCIC would like to inform all Stakeholders that effective 1st April, 2023 NCIC shall only recognize, in consideration of applications for upgrading from one category to a higher category, projects that have been duly registered in accordance with the Project Registration Regulations. NCIC shall not consider any project that has not been registered in accordance with the Project Registration Regulations as a basis for upgrading of firms.

NCIC is therefore, informing all Clients contractors and consultants to register their construction projects with NCIC within 21 days of contract signing or commencement of the project. The Project Registration Regulations apply to all construction projects being carried out in the country regardless of location, value, type, size or source of funds. Upon registration, each project shall be provided with an identification number which shall be displayed on the project sign board on the site.

Lilongwe: NCIC Headquarters, Off M1 Road, Opposite St Johns Catholic Church

Blantyre:  NCIC Southern Region Offices, behind Chitawira Puma Filling Station, Road Transport Owners Association Building

Mzuzu: NCIC Northern Region Offices, New Katoto, opposite National Bank.
